Local Artists Are Bringing Vibrancy to Co-op Live with their Artwork

3 October 2024

Three local artists, Rachael Addis, Stanley Chow and Katie Scott have used their exceptional talents to infuse Co-op Live with a vibrant sense of creativity and community.

Katie Scott: Turning Walls into Electric Works of Art

Katie Scott is a Manchester-based muralist and street artist renowned for her large-scale spray-painted works that breathe new life into urban spaces.  With a background in illustration, Katie merges fine art techniques with visual storytelling, creating immersive murals that blur the line between realism and the fantastical.  Her vibrant colour palettes and intricate details often draw from portraiture and natural elements, transforming dull, overlooked environments into captivating, living canvases.

Katie's work frequently engages communities, having collaborated with schools, local councils, prisons, and grassroots groups.

Her latest mural features a striking image of a hand gripping a microphone, framed by an abstract soundwave that pulses across the background.  The addition of dynamic lighting enhances the piece, designed to evoke the electricity and raw energy of a live music performance.

This installation also marked a personal milestone: it was Katie’s first-time using ropes and pulleys, requiring her to design and paint the entire piece while suspended mid-air, an effort that can only be described as superhero like.  Her fearless approach and dedication to her craft are reflected in every detail of the finished work.

Rachael Addis: "Rhythm" at Canalside

Rachael Addis, a Manchester-based visual artist known for her paintings' distinctive patterns, has created "Rhythm," a captivating artwork commissioned specifically for Co-op Live's Canalside - a space that overlooks the canal from the arena.

Rachael's work, meticulously hand-painted over several months, combines acrylic, oil, and ink, resulting in a mesmerizing and rhythmic visual experience. The piece's flowing forms and use of blues, reflect the energy of the water outside, as well as the indoor vibes that transcend the venue from day to night.

Stanley Chow: "MANCHESTER" Mural

Renowned illustrator and artist Stanley Chow, another iconic Manchester creative, has also left his mark on Co-op Live through his "MANCHESTER" mural—a testament to everything the city stands for and has contributed to the world.

Located on the 'Citylink' Walking Route, the mural captures the spirit of the city and was commissioned as an homage to the city's industrial heritage, its sporting achievements, its cultural vibrancy, and its pivotal role in social movements like the suffragette movement.

Chow's mural was a unique collaboration between himself and AKSE, a renowned street artist. AKSE brought Chow's illustration to life as a large-scale painting—the first time the two creatives worked together.
